There are literally hundreds of comic cons held every year all across America. You’ll find them at state fairs, in malls, hotels and major convention centers. There is of course the most famous of them all, the San Diego Comic Con, and the most attended comic con, the New York Comic Con with 200,000 attendees showing up each year in October. They are the two behemoths of the many comic cons operating in North America.
However, in just three operating years, the Superhero Comic Con & Car Show here in San Antonio has become the top show in middle America, Canada and Mexico. This new pop culture event has quickly risen to national prominence with its daring style and ‘best in class’ celebrity line-up. Stars like the Amazing Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, MARVEL stars Elizabeth Olsen, Hailee Steinfeld, Brie Larson and ‘Game of Thrones’ royalty Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington this year have fans traveling from around the world to the River City this summer.
“The business plan for our show was always predicated on producing a show that had the ‘wow’ factor. We have to be different—versus being similar— to clearly stand out,” said the show’s Founder and CEO, Bob Wills. “We want our fans to come for days, not just a few hours,” Wills added.
Stand out is an understatement!
The show’s 2023 edition has fans traveling from all 50 states as well as from 21 countries around the world to experience an unparalleled guest list that even San Diego and New York don’t have this year. Being different also includes an incredible Hollywood Car Show and daily FREE concerts.
Texas has two other large comic cons that operate in Dallas and Houston that have been around for over ten years. Those shows recently concluded with pop culture fans everywhere salivating for the Superhero Comic Con & Car Show on the second weekend in July.
“Being different is just that. Having mostly ‘circuit guests’ will not get your show the admiration of pop culture’s fandom,” said Wills. Given that many pop culture fans attend as many as five comic con shows per year, Wills believes providing unique entertainment is just as important as the stars, vendors, voice actors and comic book artists that are a normal part of any comic con. This year’s show will also include four different daily concerts and FREE guest appearances for fans to get autographs and selfie photos with. Complete information can be found on the events website at PMXEvents.com.
Getting the 2023 show ready to open in two weeks has Wills and his staff very excited. But he’s already planning for their 2024 show. “It takes lots of preparation and investment to consistently WOW people.”
